One of the most ancient and sacred temples of Odisha, dedicated to *Lord Shiva as Hari-Haraβa combined form of **Shiva (Hara)* and *Vishnu (Hari)*.
Pastime says that Lord Shiva left Kailash and came to *Ekamra Kshetra (Bhubaneswar)* after falling in love with its beauty. He wished to stay near Lord Jagannath, His beloved form of Krishna in Nilachala.

A deeply sacred Gaudiya Vaishnav place.
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu discovered the *deity of Gopinath* buried in a garden (tota) and gave Him to *Gadadhar Pandit* for worship.
When Gadadhar became old and weak, Gopinath compassionately *sat down* so he could continue the seva.
This is the only known *sitting deity of Krishna* in the world.
